How to Keep Colored Hair From Fading

Video from last year!

I know I’m not a hair expert, but these are tips I’ve gathered from magazines, sites, friends that were helpful to me and I would just like to share with you guys. These are also all products I’ve used and loved so that’s why I would recommend it to you~

So here is the complete list of the items I’ve show in my youtube video and where you can purchase it!

♥Shampoo L’Oreal EverPure Moisture Shampoo Moisture (remember, I’ve stated it made my scalp dryer, so if you’re wary of this, you can skip out on this brand and check the other brands I’ve listed at the end)
♥Conditioner Fekkai Technician Color Care Conditioner
♥Hair Mask Fekkai Technician Color Care 3-Minute Mask
♥Hair Mask Lux Hair Mask that you can find at your local Japanese/Asian market
♥Anti Color Fade Top Coat Fekkai Advanced Salon Technician Color Care Anti-Fade Top Coat
♥Color Protect Spray Paul Mitchell Color Protect Locking Spray
♥Dry Shampoo Batiste Dry Shampoo
♥Blow dryer (the one I have is from Vidal Sassoon, that’s what it says on this blow dryer too, but I’m not sure why the product name says Revlon) Ion Select Professional Hair Dryer

Also, I forgot to mention some tips in my video! So I’ll include it here!

♥ Since high heat causes hair to fade quicker, when you curl or straighten or do any of those styling to your hair (even hot blow dryer), use a heat protect spray. The one I use and love for curling my hair is Got2b Guardian Angel Heat Protect ‘N Curl Spray. It not only protects my hair, but it helps hold my curls and smells nice too > 3<“! It was on sale at Duane Reade when I bought it too, so you can also check your local drug stores if they have it on sale. 🙂 The one I use for straight hair and used to use when I blow dry (I now use the Paul Mitchell) is the Pantene Pro-V Damage defender spray. It also smells really good, like all their products~ You can also use the curlers/straighteners at a lower setting so that it won’t be as damaging.

♥ The sun’s UV ray causes hair fade too, so during the summer when the sun’s UV rays are stronger, wear a hat, or any other hat accessories that can help cover your hair. I also use a parasol XD Also, don’t forget to use your UV protect spray!

♥ Rinse your hair out thoroughly as shampoo/conditioners/masks left in you hair can cause it to dull out.

♥ Blow dry your hair with the dryer aiming from top to bottom, and comb in the same direction to minimize frizz. Like I said in the video, cool air will help lock in moisture and prevent less fading.

♥ Try not to use any volume or anti dandruff shampoos as both of them strip hair color quicker. If you have to use it, be sure to use the anti-fade mask right after to help mantain your hair color. 🙂

Other brands I’ve heard good reviews for shampoos/conditioners are;
♥ Pureology Shampoo (look for the one that’s sulfate free. This one is also more costly >”<)
♥ Moroccanoil Shampoo & Conditioner
♥ Kirkland Signature Shampoo (it is much cheaper to purchase directly from costco!! I’ll be trying this one next, and let you guys know what I think of it. Hopefully it’s more moisturizing than the L’Oreal)
♥ Nigelle HY Milbon Salon Treatment System (I get this when I go to my salon; they put the first treatment twice in your hair, and then give you four tubes to use at home once every week.)

Hope that this was useful and works for you guys~ Wishing everyone healthy, shiny hair♥

Red Hair Studio Review

I usually wait about half a year to dye my hair so that my hair won’t be damaged, and just after I finished the semester, my half a year was up! So time to head to the salon for a new hair color and hair cut. My bestie Katherine accompanied me this time. First time someone did besides my ex, i’m so happy :3

before photo

Look at how long my hair used to be!! But pretty damaged looking and my hair color has already faded. It did last pretty long since I used a color care shampoo.

I’ve always wanted to dye my hair a red-brown, but the previous times I asked my hairstylist to dye it for me, he said red will fade too quickly so he didn’t put as much red in it. But this time I showed him a photo with a more red shade so he had to do it for me haha.

The hair dye was of a magenta color and it smelled like roses, which was nice since I love roses. Katherine and I were both confused at first as to why it’s magenta, but my stylist assured me that it will be red and will fade to a nice brown after wards.

After what seems like forever (I keep feeling like they forgot me, but it’s because they didn’t have enough staff. Which is really bad because I think they left the dye in for a bit longer than it should’ve been, which isn’t a good thing…)

good bye long hair D:

I also did a hair treatment, which came with four tubes for me to use once per week at home. So afterwards, you can see how much more healthier and shinier my hair looked.

Look at my hairstylist, Edmond, work at my hair XD Thank you Katherine for the photos! It was funny, he was saying my hair is so long he almost ran into the lady sitting next to me as he cut. And I also mentioned how he will disappear from the mirror as he worked because he has to pull my hair to the side as he cut. This was also my first time in 7 years getting middle parted bangs. I’ve been having the blunt straight bangs or side bangs for 7 years, time for a change!

Almost done!

After he cuts my hair and dries it, he always curls it for me. I love it!! I think he knows I like the princess style so he never has to ask and just does it for me. It’s as if he can read my mind, because last time when I asked to cut 5″ (all my friends were complaining that my hair was too long…) he said he’s only going to cut about 1″, which was great because in my heart I didn’t really want to cut at all haha. Then all my hair colors always come out perfectly what I want.

My hairstylist and me~

So overall, I would recommend Red Hair Salon. The hairstylist I go to and the two helpers that I have worked with so far were all very nice and polite (except the helpers seemed annoyed at my long hair, but that’s expected), however I felt the receptionist should smile more. I would recommend them to hire more staff on the weeknds since they seem to leave me waiting for awhile. The hairstylist acutally started coloring my hair for me which isn’t done often, usually the helpers does it. Therefore I suggest going on a weekday morning, I remember last time I went on a Tuesday morning there was less customers.

Either ways, I always come out much happier than when I went to Japanese salons. Everytime I dyed at Japanese salons, the colors seem to fade faster and they cost more (last time for a chestnut brown I had to pay about $220 even after my student discount…). For this hairstyle, I paid $30 for haircut and $80 for hairdye because I have extra long hair. If you have shorter hair it would be much cheaper. For hair treatment, I bought it as a set before when they had promotion during grand opening.

The salon interior design itself is very clean and modern looking, I love the red chairs and white counters. Though, as you can see from my photos, it is quite cluttered with hair products all over the counter and shelves, and there is the gowns hanging in the back.

By the way just a side note about my hairstylist, I have been going to him for about 4-5 years now, starting when he worked at the other salon (Up Square). I was so sad when he quit because I didn’t know where he went, but with the help of Yelp I found him again.

My OOTD for the day~
Dress – Forever21
Belt – Forever21
Bag – ans (Japanese brand)
Shoes – b.o.c.

After shot

Thank you to lovely Katherine for these shots. You can see my front, side and back. I love the soft V of the back ^_^

Katherine & Me

This is my lovely bestie~~ Thank you for going with me and waiting so patiently with me!! I’ll go with you when you get your hair done too :3

hot pot!!!!!

Afterwards we had hot pot at Baidu Shabu Shabu in Flushing. You can choose the buffet option of $25 + tip & tax or just pick individually. Since we were two girls that don’t eat much, we did the individually one. The total came out to be $20 including tip and tax each, which wasn’t bad since were super full, however they saw a small mark on the paper as what we wanted to order when it wasnt D: D: D: Oh well, at least its something we don’t mind eating haha.

Here is the address of the Shabu Shabu restaurant:

Baidu Shabu Shabu
37-04 Prince St
At 37th Ave
Flushing, NY 11354

The hair treatment

The take home hair treatment comes in four individual tubes and they smell really romantic!! It smells like a light floral and it makes my hair look shinier afterwards. If you get the hair treatment once, I believe it’s $80 but you get discount if you purchase three or more at a time.

For more information and price chart of the salon, please visit their website.

Hope you guys found my review useful ^^”

Angelo Sosa Book Signing at Korin

Last week I went with Sandy to Angelo Sosa’s Book Signing at Korin! It was a nice get together where you can meet the celebrity chef Angelo Sosa and have a taste of his restaurant’s delicious food!

Menu and Event List

This was the menu and events for the night. Although they pushed back his speech because he wanted to wait for more people to come. But it backfired because by then more people left ^^”

Tuna Pastrami Tartar

Tuna Pastrami Tartar

All the food were catered by Angelo Sosa’s restaurant, Social Eatz, which I reviewed here. However all the food that day were ones I haven’t tried, so I was excited. The Tuna Pastrami Tartar pictured above was sooooo delicious! I had two of those. I like the herbs they used in it.

Close up.

It had mustard and a small piece of crunchy bread.

Bulogogi Sliders

These were really good too! I loved the pickled vegetables. Sandy thought I was crazy because when they had a lid over it and I was looking from above I thought it looked a bit like cupcakes haha. Well it’s round like cupcakes, so I’m not that crazy… am I? XD

Chilled Edamame Soup Shooters

I don’t usually drink soup chilled, but this was quite good and interesting. It also looked very alien-ish against the black serving trays haha.

I also tried the BBQ pork buns, tofu sliders, and Fish Cha Ca La Vong Sandwiches. The Fish Ca Ca La Vong sandwiches somewhat resembled Viet Sandwiches, and it was sweet so I liked the taste of it. But one friend didn’t, haha. The BBQ pork buns however was a miss for me, not enough flavor and a bit too fatty. The tofu sliders had a similar taste to the Bulogoi burger since it had pickled vegetables as well, but it tasted much better served hot than cold. They didn’t have fries since it would’ve been too soggy by the time it reached the showroom. However, that was one of my favorite dish at Social Eatz, so I’ll probably be dragging a friend with me to eat there just for the fries haha.

Sandy and me~

Of course, it’s the mandatory selca pic of one of my bestie and me~ :3 First time that I saw her in heels! I loved it too, I want a pair myself. Should’ve took a picture of it to share with you guys 😦 Best part was she said she bought it on sale from payless, but it did not look like it! Which is great 😀

Speech time!

He finally got up to make his speech, and Saori-san, the owner of Korin, also joined in.

Angelo Sosa and me~

My sister helped me ask to take a photo with him. Sandy and Wendy helped me take some “normal” photos, but as you guys all know, I LOVEEE selcas!! So I asked if I can take one myself, and he started cracking up so much. We were both laughing uncontrollably so it took awhile until we calmed down and got this shot with him. Isn’t he so cute? ;3

Best part was when he said I looked like a princess. Kyaaaaaaaaaaaah haha

My OOTD and FOTD. Starting to wear less frilly stuff, but I like it a lot! And my bra kept peeking out… oh well, it’s my new style ;D LOL I think if it was me a few years back I would be tugging on my dress the whole time to cover up, but after being in intimate apparel it doesn’t faze me anymore. I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing… LOL

Sakura Macaron!

Extra photo~ Before the event, I went to Takahachi Bakery to hang out. My sister bought me a Sakura Macaron before but I didn’t get to take a photo before I ate it, so I bought one again just to camerawhore it hehehe jp, it’s really good so it’s worth it. If you’re around the area, definitely check it out! ^_^

By the way, let me know if you have instagram! Mine is judyhimechan. I’m so addicated to that app!

4Minute Comeback – Volume Up

I’m so excited!!! 4Minute♥ is finally releasing their comeback, and they have two teaser photos out so far~

The two teasers shows two very opposite concepts for their new album, and there are no other information besides these two images. The two opposite concepts kind of reminds me of Kara’s comeback in Japan with their Speed Up (more dark and sexy) and Girl’s Power (very girly and sweet). Between these two teasers, I prefer the first one – it’s sooooo feminine and spring like! Very different from what we’re used to seeing the girl’s in, which is a very refreshing change! The second teaser reminds me of vampires >”<. I *like* how they made Hyuna stand out -_-” As much as I favor her the most, I think it would’ve been better if she had a black belt and a ribbon tie as well so their group would’ve been more cohesive. Or if she is going to be different, place her in the middle since that’s already a focal point of an image.

I’m really excited (haha everyone knows I love Hyuna :3 and 4minute is one of my favorite girl groups) so I can’t wait for the 9th! Their tracklist is out already as well, and I already like the name of their title track. Song #5, Femme Fatale, reminds me of my term garment for AAS where we did gowns based on Film Nior/Femme Fatale.

4Minute Volume Up Tracklist

01. Get On The Floor
Music and Lyrics: Kim Dong Yeol, Im Sang Hyuk
2. Volume Up (Title)
Music and Lyrics: Shinsadong Tiger, Rado
3. I’m OK
Music and Lyrics: Rado
4. Say My Name
Music and Lyrics: Seo Yong Bae, Seo Jae Woo
5. Femme Fatale
Lyrics: M (Lee Min Woo), David Kim (Day Day)
Music: Kim Do Hyun
6. Dream Racer
Music and Lyrics: The Koxx
7. Black Cat
Lyrics: Chang Jun Ho, Min Yeon Jae, Gong Hyun Sik
Music: Chang Jun Ho, Gong Hyun Sik

I was kind of hoping for a very strong and sexy look like they did in HuH (which is what made me become their fan), but I’m interested to see what they’ll do with these two concepts. I’m already starting to plan outfits inspired by their first teaser :3

Hyuna also have a new hair style that I have a love and hate relationship with. It looked really sexy in her selca photos, but when she went to the Spicy Color Launch Party it made her look old, and then in her magazine shoot she looked really pretty (although it might have just been the lighting and make up). Here’s some images of her new hair.

What do you guys think? I like it better when it’s straighter rather than when it’s really defined waves for this hair color. In High Cut they toned the color down a bit, so I think it looks a lot more classy than in the launch party when it’s a brighter orangey-red.

I’m also excited to see the pieces in this new brand, I definitely want to order some (once I find out how! So if anyone finds out, please let me know and I’ll love you forever!!!!!!) It’s supposed to be “retro, chic, and sexy.”

I found the same headband as Hyuna in the photo above! Although her photo is not that clear, I saw it clearer else where but I can’t seem to find that image, but she had a spiked headband. I’ve been looking for it FOREVERRR and when I found it I was soooo happyyyyy :3 I’m also planning to dye my hair that color when the semester is over ^^

Review ~ e.l.f. Essential Brightening Eye Color in Drama

I love the smokey eye look, which I think is perfect for photoshoots since it’s a very strong look that the camera can pick up the colors easily. Most of the eyeshadow palettes I use, I have one in my Tarte The Starlet Limited-Edition Makeup Vanity (that I got as a gift from my lovely friends Michelle, Eileen & Mary :3) and a small portable one that I usually bring with me to the photoshoot for touch ups. For some odd reason, I never had a silver/black smokey eye set!

So last time, when I did a minu haul with Eileen during the time they were giving away free mineral brushes, I got one. I chose their Essentials Brightening Eye Color in Drama, which was only $1.

e.l.f. Essential Brightening Eye Color

It’s a quad with a matte white, shimmery silver, shimmery charcol and shimmery black. It comes with a four sided sponge applicator and a tiny mirror that is practically useless. The sponge applicator does pick up color, but it’s not the softest to use so not that easy to blend with it.

one layer

The colors were quite pigmented, though the white didn’t show up as well on my eyelid. The silver made a great highlighter, and the other two worked really well together, creating depth. It’s not velvety, but quite smooth to apply. I think it would’ve been better if I used a primer, but I wanted to test the eyeshadows on their own. It was much easier to apply when I used their mineral all over eye brush.

final eye look

Since the white didn’t show up that well, I mixed in my too faced naked palette’s white shadow and my kate white liner to help highlight the corner of my eyes. As for the bottom, I also mixed in my too faced naked palette’s black to make it darker since the black in the palette wasn’t dark enough for me. However, the colors did blend pretty well together with the right brush. After this shot, I mixed in some Stilla Cloud Shadow.

shot with full face make up

For $1, the lasting power is quite good. I applied around 11:00AM, did a touch up at 4:30 and it lasted throughout the photoshoot (started around 5ish). At the end of the day, the lighter colors were fading, but the darker color had a better staying power. The glitter that was apparent in the palette, wasn’t as apparent on my skin. The color itself looked really nice on my fair warm skin tone, thought I think it would look nice on cool skn as well. It looks like a nice neutral color that would work for any skin tone.

loving it :3

It’s perfect for starting out the smokey eye look, or just to throw into your purse for touch ups and such ^^Since it provided some nice colors (I do love smokey eye looks a lot XD) and the really cheap price, I would definitely rebuy it! 😀 Unless I find another reasonably priced palette that gives a better color pay off for the white. I’m going to try a rimmel one next, and do a comparison ^^

look at the end of the day~

as you can see the darker colors were still apparent at the end of the day, but the white and silver has been faded. this was taken at around 9:30, 5 hours after the last touch ups.

Base – Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer in nude (I should be a porcelain though, but it was a sample)
Blush – Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Glory
Bronzer – Mineral Powder Bronzer in Park Avenue Princess and Amazonian Clay Shimmering Powder in Rose

e.l.f. Essential Brightening Eye Color in Drama
Too Faced Naked Palette
Stilla eye shadow in Cloud
Eyeliner – Dollywink liquid and pencil
Kate White Pencil Eyeliner
Fiberwig Mascara
Daiso Fake Lashes

e.l.f. Mineral Mineral Lipstick in Natural Nymph
e.l.f. Studio Matte Lip Color in Coral
